Stefan comes from a formidable, yet, cold family. He has recently lost his calculating and mentally abusive father, Giuseppe. He, his brother Damon, his soon-to-be ex-wife Katherine (who left him for his brother) and their son, Timotheo, have arrived at Saltburn while the bad press around his son's sex tape dies down.
BACKSTORY
Born second in line to the Salvatore dynasty, Stefan inherited a lot at a very young age. In Guiseppe's eyes, his brother Damon wasn't living up to expectations, and so his father molded Stefan into his likeness. That is, he tried. Stefan had a curious, playful, and cocky streak and caught on to being the apple of his father's eye. When he uncovered why his mother had left them when they were young, he lost the respect his father had cultivated. An alliance with another family, the Pierce's, yielded not just a friend for life, but who he believed to be the love of his life: Katherine. Katherine and Stefan shared their hopes, their dreams, their small school-aged rebellions. They were each other's firsts. Giuseppe, never one to stand for dissension in the ranks, saw an opportunity. He poisoned the young couple and their bond not long after they gave birth to their son. Their marriage never recovered.
Afraid of treating his son like his father had treated him and Damon, he instead buried his head in work. He went out on his own and through an old school mate created quite a successful company of his own (a bourbon company) - rivaling his family's vineyard's legacy.
Things took a turn from indifferent to nasty once Katherine outright asked for a divorce and admitted to being in love with his brother, Damon. While he's tried to teach his son through action, his lack of affection and coldness and penchant for speaking with his credit card hasn't done wonders for their relationship. Still, family is everything to Stefan and he bails out his son whenever it's necessary, including now — amid divorce negotiations and the brothers (and newly discovered half sister) both inheriting their family's vineyard.
